Your questions
Most of our patients ask:
How long will the exam last?
The average Cardiac MR exam lasts approximately 45 minutes. Each exam is tailored to the individual patient, and exam times may vary according to the protocol used.
Is the exam safe?
MRI exams do not use ionizing radiation, so the patient will not be exposed to radiation during the exam. Most complications associated with MRI involves metal objects within the patient such as prostheses or aneurysm clips.
How will I get the results?
All Cardiac MR exams are monitored by a physician during the exam’s acquisition. The studies are then interpreted in collaborative reading sessions between Radiology and Cardiology. The results are dictated on the day of the exam, and may be accessed via Northwestern’s internal information system at the time. Results are otherwise mailed to the referring physician.
