What is Coronary CT angiography?
A Computed Tomography (CT) scan is a special way of looking at the inside of your body. The images it produces are "cross-sectional planes" taken from a part of your body, much like slices taken out of a loaf of bread. A coronary CT angiography specifically evaluates how the heart works and how healthy the arteries in the heart are. The length of the exam itself is anywhere between five and thirty minutes and is done in the Radiology (x-ray) Department.
Please tell your doctor or the x-ray staff if you:
- might be pregnant, trying to get pregnant or are breastfeeding
- are allergic to iodine
- are on dialysis or have known kidney disease
- are diabetic
- have a history of lung disease such as asthma
- have a history of low heart rate, low blood pressure or heart attack
- have a history of heart arrythmias such as atrial fibrillation
